Malaria set back

In Pakistan in the preceding year, devastating floods resulted in a fivefold surge in malaria instances. The country experienced the most substantial increase in cases, soaring significantly from 500,000 in 2021 to approximately 2.6 million in 2022. Other nations witnessing notable upticks include Ethiopia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. Despite 11 of the most heavily impacted countries noting a stabilization in new cases and fatalities following an initial surge in the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that progress toward the 2025 milestones is significantly behind schedule. Read more
