Emergency Situations

Before you head overseas, make sure you register with the Australian Government’s Smartraveller. This will enable contact to be made in an emergency situation and may also be used to provide you with updated information regarding travel advice, notice of elections and other relevant matters.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation when travelling overseas, you can contact the 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on +612 6261 3305 (outside Australia) or 1300 555 135 (within Australia) or SMS at + 61 421 269 080.

In case of a medical emergency, call your travel insurance provider on the number they provided. They will be able to give you contact names and addresses of preferred hospitals and medical facilities.

You can also contact the nearest Australian mission or their representative in the country you are visiting.
