Malaria, dengue and cross-border movements

Following the devastating floods in June, both malaria and dengue fever infections have surged, with almost 80 percent of cases in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. More than 210,000 malaria cases, mostly Plasmodium vivax, were recorded in 62 high burden districts last month alone. High rates of malaria and dengue fever transmission are occurring in areas bordering Iran and Afghanistan, according to two separate WHO Disease Outbreak News posts, and onward cross-border spread could not be ruled out.
