Cholera outbreaks escalate

Deteriorating conditions caused by flooding during the country’s June-Oct rainy season have rapidly intensified the cholera outbreaks in six regions. Cases and associated deaths have now also been recorded in the capital Niamey, and the WHO regional office has cautioned that cross-border spread has the potential to lead to a wider regional outbreak.
