The UK is one of four countries (also Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) which has seen an increased incidence in cryptosporiasis reports, which the ECDC suggested may be attributed to ‘favourable environmental conditions (heat waves, heavy rainfall and flooding) in southern Europe and summer travel patterns towards these countries’.
