Malaria vaccine for kids under 2

Malawi is one of three African countries launching a pilot campaign to administer the malaria vaccine, RTS,S, to children up to two years of age. Kenya and Ghana are scheduled to start their vaccination programs ‘in the coming weeks’. A WHO news article of Apr 23 notes that ‘In clinical trials, the vaccine was found to prevent approximately 4 in 10 malaria cases, including 3 in 10 cases of life-threatening severe malaria’.
