COVID-19 cases top 2.2 million

The country’s daily incidence of new COVID-19 cases is now the highest in the world as this week reported cases accelerated past 2 million. More than 50,000 cases were reported daily for the past 13 days and the Aug 10 Johns Hopkins newsletter notes that India could soon top the ‘global record for average daily incidence [67,374 cases] … if it continues along its current trajectory’. The health ministry has announced that more than 1.5 million people have recovered from the infection.
