This is an essential item for overseas travellers visiting a developing country. In developing countries sterile trauma items are not always be readily available - if an injury or urgent medical condition should occur, local medical staff may not have the necessary items to assist you (or if they do, they will not be sterile and you risk picking up a blood borne virus such as hepatitis or HIV).
