Both Cambodian and Vietnamese authorities have advised that bordering areas between the two countries have accounted for 100 new cases of cholera since the Lunar New Year Festival, Tet. The An Giang province of Vietnam is considered to be the centre of the outbreak which has included some Cambodians.
Head of the Vietnamese Department of Preventive Medicine and the Environment, Dr. Nga has also warned that the virus has been detected in some water sources along the border.

In Cambodia, Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital in Phnom Penh has treated 158 suspected cholera patients in February 2010 alone, 65 of these had tested positive for the disease. Dr Beat Richner, director of a Phnom Penh paediatric hospital said cases are still on the rise nationwide.
