According to a Radio New Zealand report published on May 6th, over 170 cases of chickenpox have been diagnosed across 62 different locations in Fiji for the first quarter of this year.
A Ministry of Health spokesperson was quoted as saying that numbers could be higher; those presenting to private doctors would not necessarily have been included in the total.
Australian children are now routinely vaccinated against chickenpox at 18 months of age and a catch up schedule was introduced for schoolchildren under 14.
