Travellers arriving into South Africa from yellow fever (YF) affected countries are required to show valid proof of yellow fever vaccination or a waiver issued by a YF licensed practitioner. From October 1, 2011 this requirement will also include those people arriving from Zambia.
Included in the requirement are those travellers who arrive in South Africa after transiting through YF endemic countries, regardless of the length of transit.
Arrival without a vaccination certificate or valid waiver could mean that entry could be denied or detained in quarantine for up to 6 days. Also of note, the stamped vaccination certificate becomes valid 10 days after administration of the YF vaccine (unless it is a booster given within the 10 year limit). http://www.doh.gov.za/show.php?id=3047
