WHO issues ‘yellow card’ over Rift Valley Fever outbreak
11-May-2010
Rift Valley Fever (RVF) among a group of German tourists who visited game parks in South Africa has prompted warning to World Cup fans from the World Health Organisation.

The WHO says that while the disease presents a low risk, football fans and others who visit rural areas and game parks in Eastern and Western Cape provinces should avoid mosquito bites and direct contact with dead animals. More details.

Advice to travellers: RVF is generally not a risk for travellers. However, those visiting game parks and regional areas of affected provinces should avoid contact with farm animals and take precautions against mosquitoes, which can transmit RVF and other diseases, including malaria.
