In Singapore, malaria has been diagnosed in 14 people who have had no recent history of overseas travel, leading authorities to consider local transmission. The cases were from Jurong Island and Sungei Kadut/ Mandai.
The Ministry of Health is investigating the cases and also carrying out a pest control operation to eradicate the mosquito vectors.
Malaria is transmitted by the female anopheles mosquito, a night feeder. For more information, contact the Travelvax infoline during east coast business hours on 1300 360 164.
